DESCRIPTION

KINNAUR is in the northeast corner of Himachal Pradesh and about 235 kms from the state capital Shimla. It is truly a paradise high up in the Great Himalaya. The journey itself is adventurous with hair raisingly steep narrow road sections along the Sutlej river. Magnificient views of snow clad mountains guarding the valleys and thick forested slopes, orchards, fields and picturesque hamlets. This district also boasts of the cleanest air in India. A mountainous area, ranging in altitude from 2,320 to 6,816 meters (7,612 to 22,362 ft), Kinnaur is one of the smallest districts in India by population. Reckong Peo is the administrative headquarters of Kinnaur district and is at a height of 2290 meters(7513 ft.).From here the famous Kinnaur Kailash, considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and a mountain sacred to Hindus, can be seen. One can also go all the way to Spiti valley via Reckong Peo. The old Hindustan-Tibet Road passes through the Kinnaur valley along the bank of river Sutlej and finally enters Tibet.


DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1 Chandigarh – Shimla ( 114 kms/4 hrs)

Today you will leave early in order to reach Chitkul by dusk. It’s a long but exciting journey as moving on NH22 will lead you to Narkanda. From here the views of Greater Himalaya are magnificient…mind you, this is only the beginning.

Descending from Narkanda will make you enter Sutlej valley and after busy Rampur town the road ascends and becomes narrower. From Karcham while ascending on the narrow road for a while all of a sudden you will reach the wide open Sangla valley. Just the first glimpse of this picturesque valley will leave you awestruck. Covering another 23 kms from here you will be enthralled by the raw and untouched natural beauty enroute. Chitkul is on the right bank of Baspa and the landscape is rugged as compared to Sangla. The vast landscape will leave you speechless and the feeling would be priceless to be at the very end of civilization. Overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 2 Shimla - Chitkul via Sangla (247 kms/ 10 hours)

DAY 3 Chitkul

Time to leave your cozy beds and relish a hearty breakfast. Today you will explore this beautiful place by short walks, hike and visiting age old temples. Sitting on the bank of pristine Baspa river is something not to be missed.

DAY 4 Chitkul – Kalpa (62 kms/ 4 hrs)

After witnessing the beautiful sunrise you will hit the road and via Sangla reach Karcham from where your vehicle will turn right to Powari and a steep road towards Reckong Peo will lead you to Kalpa. Overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 5 KALPA

Do not miss the sunrise which will greet you from behind the mighty Kinner Kailash range. Today you will explore the beautiful Kalpa and Roghi village, bask in the Kinnauri culture and visit the ancient temples. Overnight stay at hotel.

DAY 6 Kalpa – Shimla (225 kms/9 hrs)

Today you will leave early in order to reach Shimla by evening. Zig zagging on NH22 with all the beautiful and memorable moments of Kinnaur will constantly evoke a feeling to visit this place again. Upon reaching Shimla overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 7 Shimla – Chandigarh ( 114 kms/ 4 hrs)

Today you can visit famous Mall road and by noon vehicle will pick you up and drop you at Chandigarh by evening for your onward journey. Your trip will terminate here.
