MUNSIYARI lies at the base of the great Himalayan mountain range at an elevation of 2298 meters in Pithoragarh district, Uttrakhand. Situated on the banks of Goriganga river this place is truly a paradise for trekkers, nature lovers and bird watchers. It falls on the ancient salt route from Tibet which is now ceased after Indo-China war in 1962. Munsiyari means ‘a place with snow’ and offers stunning views of snow giants called Panchachuli (a group of five peaks) among the magnificent peaks of Nada Devi, Rajarambha, Nandakot and Nepal Himalayas. The virgin environs of the valley offers spellbounding views of the surrounding mountain ranges.


DAY 1 Kathgodam – Munsiyari (298 kms / 10 hrs)

Vehicle will pic you up from Kathgodam station in the morning and you will commence on a long but exciting journey. Zig zagging on the road you will cross picturesque Bhowali, Bhimtal, Almora, Bageshwar and famous Birthi falls to reach Munsiyari by evening. Overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 2 Maheshwari Kund (2 hrs) / Thamri Kund (4 hrs)

After having a hearty breakfast you will go on a short trek to Maheshwari kund. On a well defined uphill trail it takes 45 minutes to reach this prestine lake. Surrounded by oak trees and rhododendrons the calm atmosphere of this place will rejuvenate you. You will trek back to the main road from where vehicle will pick you up and an uphill drive of 10 kms on Musiyari- Madkot road will take you to the entrance of Thamri kund nature trail. On a well defined trail from here its a 3 kms trek till the kund. The trek itself is a treat as will take you through lush green forests and the kund is one of the hidden gems which is slowly gaining popularity. This place houses many musk deers and is enriched in variety of flora.

You will trek back till the main road from where vehicle will pick you up and drop you at hotel.

DAY 3 Tribal Museum

After having a hearty breakfast you will go on a leisurely walk and visit Tribal museum. This local museum is run by Dr. Pangtey who has put age old artifacts, tribal instruments, clothes and currency etc. on display.


Today after having breakfast and packed lunch the vehicle will drop you to Balati band, a point from where an uphill trek of 6 kms through the thick forest of oak, spruce, cypress and pine . The scent of trees in the atmosphere will refresh you. In spring time rhododendron blooms in the region thus making the trek more picturesque. Khaliya Top is a vast alpine meadow with breathtaking panoramic views of majestic Panchachuli, Hardeol, Nandkot and Rajrambha peaks.

DAY 5 Munsiyari – Kathgodam ( 298kms/10 hrs )

Today will be the time to hit the road and head back to Kathgodam with all the sweet memories of the exciting trip. You will reach Kathgodam by evening for your onward journey. The trip will terminate here.
